IR LASER FBDT

Hi guys!
Today I am proud to introduce the NEW Draft Survey Equipment “LASER FBDT”, which is based on IR Laser Rangefinder!
The middle draft has the biggest influence to our calculations during the draft survey. “Laser FBDT” gives a nice possibility to define the middle draft with the PRECISION of IR LASER! Even in bad weather!
“IR Laser FBDT” consists of stainless steel pipe, measuring tape (not included in Set), a transparent tube (3 m length) with a small hole at the end, a tape clamp, and IR Rangefinder, which is measuring the distance till float inside the pipe.
The new equipment has three excellent advantages:
- It defines the real water level via the small hole in the tube from the depth of 3 m and reduces the influence of waves to the stable position of a float inside the pipe.
- The IR Laser defines the distance from the real water level (from the float inside the pipe) until the Deck Line with IR laser precision using continuous measurement (2-3 per second).
- Moreover, IR Laser continuously transmits the meaning of IR measurements to the screen of your mobile phone via Bluetooth to the Excel table and defines the Average of each 20 and 60 measurements constantly during the time of 3 minutes (180 seconds).
The device performs measurements in meters/mm and feet/inches.
Please use a measuring tape with units you like.
You have to know the corrections of measuring tape only – the distance from the end of the rangefinder until zero of tape. (Explanation, how to define it, you can find in Assembly Guide)
Please note that we do not use any corrections for the float inside the pipe, as the density of the external water has a very small effect on it due to its small volume.
The most important thing – all your measurements have to pass on the line, which is passing through the middle of the Deck Line and the center of Plimsoll mark.
Disadvantage:
The Android phones show measurements in Excel table only. Not iOS.
Nevertheless, you can use any “second-hand” Android.
Using Laser FBDT, you will be able:
- Define mid-draft in bad weather from the deck of the vessel and shore-side mid draught, if it's covered by shore fender
- Improve the quality of your calculations
- Perform your job SAFELY, easier and accurately
Calculations:
Summer Draft + Summer Freeboard = Distance from keel to Deck Line, minus the measured distance with Laser FBDT (from water level through the middle of Plimsoll Mark and till the middle of the Deck Line) will give us the Real Draft.

SAFETY - FIRST OF ALL
Advice:
- High waves - the heavier weight of sink-stone
- You need some practice with App on your phone and IR Rangefinder before measurements.
- Use a neck strap for your cell phone
- Use gloves when lowering or raising the Laser FBDT (Never try to use a tape measure handle!)
- Additional rope for alignment of the Laser FBDT in water can work as additional safety of your equipment
- Do not use broken or cracked measuring tape - you are at risk to lose your equipment
